New York City entered Phase 2 this week, finally allowing KAIGHT Brooklyn to open for in-store retail. Wuuhuu! I can't wait to open our doors to you and to see your faces again. Reopening is bittersweet, however, as I have made the decision to close the Brooklyn store after an incredible decade as a part of the Boerum Hill community.
Practically speaking, my 10-year lease is up on July 31st. These last thirteen weeks have tested me and my business in myriad ways, while also highlighting the areas where I find the most joy and purpose as a business owner. Having been forced to step away from the day to day of running this space, I've been able to shift my focus to other creative projects. Closing the Brooklyn store will allow me to continue to nurture and develop those projects, which include investing more time and energy in the Beacon store, creating more focused content for kaightshop.com,, developing products, and keeping the online store up-to-date with new inventory.
This was an incredibly difficult decision to come to and is a loss for me on many levels: I built my business as a brick and mortar retailer -- initially in Manhattan on the Lower East Side, 14 years ago, and opened in Brooklyn in 2010 -- because I value the relationships that come with owning a small business. Being part of both of these communities has been an integral part of my experience as a New Yorker. It's difficult to imagine how it will feel to no longer be part of this intimate Brooklyn community. I will miss you tremendously.
KAIGHT is also part of the sustainable fashion community and it has been a privilege to watch this community grow and evolve over the last 14 years. What started as a group of impassioned designers, makers and thoughtful consumers has grown into a global movement. And I'm hoping stepping back from this brick-and-mortar retail space will allow me to participate and engage more fully with you and this community. I am so proud of all the work we have done; there is still much more to do.
The Brooklyn store will remain open this week by appointment only. Please email us at info@kaightnyc.com for questions or to schedule an appointment, Regular hours of Tuesday - Saturday from 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. will begin June 30 through our closing date of July 26. (Note: We will be closed on July 4). This is not goodbye, as I will continue to be here for you on kaightshop.com, in Beacon and... who knows? Stay tuned. I have loved being part of your lives and being part of this community. Thank you so much!

Kate
