At it's most basic, fair trade means fair pay and working conditions for producers. But fair trade is also good for the environment since certified fair trade companies must adhere to strict environmental standards. There is also a zero-tolerance for child labor, with a minimum, employable age standard of 15.
Other Fair trade benefits include higher quality goods (artisan made) and building sustainable communities. There’s an ancient proverb that says, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”
