Kick off the new year by getting a better understanding of sustainable fashion and learning more about the challenges affecting designers and companies that are part of this community. Join the Brooklyn Fashion Design Accelerator for a screening of Cotton Road, a documentary by Laura Kissel that pulls back the curtain on the the commodity of cotton.
Cotton Road is part of a thought-provoking Winter Film Series presented by the BF+DA featuring filmmakers and the fashion industry focused documentaries they’ve created. From environmental and human rights challenges to how technology is changing the fashion map, we’ll explore the future of fashion over film, organic popcorn, wine and Q&A’s with the filmmakers themselves.
For their kick off film, Cotton Road director Laura Kissel ventures north from her home in South Carolina to screen the movie, engage in a post-film Q&A as well as host a fun post-holiday clothing swap.
Bring 5-10 of your best duds to trade with others and help make a dent in the textile waste stream by re-using! All leftover clothing will be donated to Wearable Collections, a NYC based company focused on keeping clothing, textiles and shoes out of landfills while generating funds for charities.
