To me, one of - if not THE -- most important aspects of sustainability as it relates to clothing is a product's longevity. The Callina Collection is based on this timelessness principle and designer Michelle Shepard has built a collection of superior knitwear made from sustainable fibers.
We are currently featuring her collection of ombre scarves, which are made by hand by Peruvian artisans from the finest baby alpaca.
Eco facts: Alpaca are gentle on the land, highly efficient animals when it comes to grazing, resilient animals that can tolerate extreme temperatures and difficult conditions. As the world’s climate changes, and resources such as water become more constrained, alpaca can thrive in fragile or compromised ecosystems, and they come in a palette of natural colors.
The artisanal skill of hand-sorting fibers for staple length, color, and fineness has been passed down through the generations as have the textile skills. Part of the mission of the Callina Collection is to help provide business growth opportunities by partnering with artisans and manufacturers that have environmental and community-based initiatives.
By purchasing Callina products, you are supporting the shepherds and their families, educational opportunities for their children, and the continuation of Peru’s traditional alpaca techniques that produce some of the softest and most elegant yarns in the world.
